Jean was born on July 24, 1918, a daughter of Rohyal Bertrand and Mary Irene (Strassburger) Roberts. She married Ralph Edwin McMorris on July 31, 1937 in Davenport, IA. He preceded her in death on November 10, 1973 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Glen; brother, Bertrand; and sister, Marian Maynard.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (David) Gottwald of Peoria, Shirley (Charles “Sonny”) Herring of East Peoria, Laurie (Al) Sloan of Green Valley and Valerie (Harold “Eugene”) Stamper of Washington, IL; sons, Walter (Diane) McMorris of Kansas City, MO and Martin (Pam) McMorris of Calhan, CO; sister, Cordelia Howe of Peoria; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Jean was formerly a waitress for Jumer’s and Agatucci’s Restaurant in Peoria. She was a member of Neighborhood House and a parishioner at St. Ann Catholic Church in Peoria.
Jean loved to read, go to potlucks, spend time at Neighborhood House, listen to Perry Como and watching Glenn Ford and Alan Ladd. She was very active as a Democratic election Judge.
She enjoyed spending time at her children's homes and spending time with her family at Christmas and all of the holidays. She especially enjoyed her time with her sisters and friends.
Jean will be remembered as a strong woman for raising her seven children, as a loving mother and grandparent and for her strong faith.
